Fall Educational School Field Trips

Objective:

Watt Farms Country Market's tour guides will provide an enjoyable and educational tour, especially designed for children K-3rd grade. Children will be given age-appropriate lessons on pollination, honey-making, apple harvesting and apple handling. We can accomodate groups rain or shine.

Program: The children will:

1. Enjoy a ride through our 100 acre orchard on our 90 foot train! This narrated journey will teach them how we prepare the fruit we harvest.
2. Fall trip: Pick about 2 pounds of fresh crisp apples -OR- pick their own pumpkin from our pumpkin patch (your preference)
3. Learn about the importance of bees in growing fruit.
4. Visit our farm animals.
5. Play in our straw maze.
6. Have the opportunity to picnic after your tour.

Time:

Tours are offered Monday through Friday, September through October, starting at 10:00am and 12:00pm and last about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Take Home:

*A bag of apples or a pumpkin they have picked.
*Knowledge about how apples grow and the work of an orchard.
*An understanding of the relationship of honeybees to an orchard.
* Lots of great memories.

Price:

TBA for 2008-for each person (student and parent). There is no charge for teachers or PAID school staff (2 per class). There is a minimum charge of $150.

Please pay for your group tour upon arrival.

Weather:

Weather always varies, so its best to have the children dress in layers. There are no weather related refunds.

Cancellations:

If it is necessary to cancel your scheduled tour, we would appreciate your cooperation in giving us as much notice as possible, but at least 2 weeks notice, so that we may fill your appointment time.

DIRECTIONS TO WATT FARMS COUNTRY MARKET

General: We are located 1 ½ miles north of Albion, NY on Rt. 98 between Rt. 104 and Rt. 31

From Buffalo and West: Take the thruway and head East to exit 48 (Batavia). Turn north (right) onto Rt. 98 and continue on through the village of Albion, over the canal bridge and we are on the right about 1 mile north of the village.

From Lockport or Niagara Falls: Take Rt. 104 east to route 98. Turn south (right) and we are about 2 miles on the east (left) side.

From Hilton, Rochester and North: Take Lake Ontario Parkway, Rt. 18, or Rt. 104 and head West. Turn south (left) onto Rt. 98 and continue about 2 miles south of Rt. 104 on the east (left ) side.

From East and South of Rochester: Take the thruway West to exit 48 (Batavia), turn right onto Rt. 98 and continue through the village of Albion, over the canal bridge and we are on the right about 1 mile north of the village.
